Our school began in 1911, celebrating our 100-year anniversary in 2011. This year we celebrate 113 years of excellence in learning and teaching!

Wonthaggi Primary is a proud local community school. being a part of the community’s history with connection to local events, places and people.  From parent helpers, local lunch order suppliers to local community activities we are always connected to the wider community.

Wonthaggi is a culturally diverse community, and we pride ourselves on our Cultural Awareness Team and programs.

In 2025 the school is home to around 390 children from Foundation (Prep) to Year 6. The school is made up of three Foundation classes, two Year 1, three Year 2, three Year 3, three Year 4, two Year 5 and three Year 6 classes.  

The school offers specialist classes in physical education (PE) and sport, science, art, music, technology, additional literacy, maths and more.

The school offers support across all year levels with language and literacy support for those who have English as an Additional Language (EAL).

In addition to our learning and teaching staff, the school maintains a team of highly dedicated wellbeing staff to support the health and wellbeing of children and families.
